|The Magic of Story|
|From Kay Winters|
Welcome to our website. It was created by my husband, Earl, so that I could share information about my life, my books, author visits to schools, presentations, and appearances at libraries, bookstores, and conferences.
A former teacher, I love to bring the magic of story to kids, parents, teachers, librarians, and writers.

On February 13th, Did You Hear What I Heard? Poems About School, illustrated by Patrice Barton will be released by Dutton. Lively laugh-aloud verses about familiar experiences like fire drills, permission slips, an escaping class pet, delight when the teacher is spotted at the supermarket instead of on the playground, laments over frequent testing, and head checks make this a school poetry book that resonates with young readers.
On January 9th, Voices from the Underground Railroad, illustrated by Larry Day, will be released by Dutton and available for sale. It's number three in the Voices series from Penguin, preceded by Voices of Colonial America and Voices on the Oregon Trail. Meet Mattie and Jeb, two courageous freedom seekers, who escape from the only home they have ever known on a small plantation in Maryland. Their owner has died and the auctioneer is coming. They are sometimes helped by free blacks and concerned whites as they run from slave catchers and bounty hunters. Other times they are on their own as they make their way by land and sea to New Bedford, Massachusetts, where they hope to be free.
