At the 2008 Illinois Reading Conference, where I
presented three sessions, I was so pleased to meet Larry Day, the
illustrator of our new book, Colonial Voices: Hear Them Speak. Two other author
friends, Ester Hershenhorn and April Pulley Sayre joined us for
lunch.
Children's book people are the BEST!!! |
| Pat Brisson, an award-winning author, and I
frequently present our program, So You Want to Write a
Children's Book. We have shared our specific strategies, trade
secrets, and timely tips at the Bloomsburg Reading Conference, the
Children's Literature course at King's College, Wilkes-Barre, and
the Bucks County Intermediate Unit. In the fall, we will offer our program to the New Jersey Association of School Librarians and
the Keystone Reading Teachers Conference. Pat and I share our
journey from wannabe's to published authors. |

On July 4th of last year, Boston's
Old South Meeting House
had their annual re-enactment of the
tea tax debate leading up to the Boston Tea Party. I signed
Colonial Voices in their Museum Shop from 10 AM until 1 PM. |
|
Robin DeBlosi, Old South's enthusiastic Director of Marketing
and Events, went all out to publicize the event. Boston
residents heard about the book signing on television, read about
it in the Boston Globe and in the online listing of Boston
Harborfest events on July 4th. After the re-enactment, tourists
from Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, Texas,
California and other places, stopped by to chat and buy a book.
I signed one copy for an unborn child, another for a baby who
was celebrating his first 4th of July, another for a child who
was being home schooled, one for a teacher who taught 4th grade.
It was great fun.
