Honors and Awards

Kay was honored by the Northampton County Coordinating Council of Education Associations at their 2005 annual banquet at the Candlelight Inn in Bethlehem. Program Chairwoman Barbara Fowler,  Farmersville Elementary School art teacher, presented her with the County Friend of Education Award for support of excellent communication between schools and community. At the banquet, Kay gave a speech and read My Teacher for President while the illustrations were displayed.  In accepting the award, she said to the audience, "I feel I should be giving you this honor. Education has always been central to my life. But today, you are the ones offering the welcoming smile, the encouraging word, the gift of reading. You are the ones making a difference."

The Alumni Association of Arcadia University presented Kay with the Golden Disc Award for Distinguished Achievement in Her Chosen Profession. On receiving the award at the Alumni Luncheon on June 2, 2001, Kay thanked Arcadia University for nurturing her dream of becoming a teacher and a writer.

During her career in the Palisades School District, Kay was twice honored with an Outstanding Service Award by the Bucks County IU Programs and Services Council.

Kay received a hand-carved Appreciation Award from the Bolans School in Antigua, West Indies, for organizing the donation of books from students, teachers and parents in the Palisades School District.  More than 6000 books were collected and sent from the Naval Air Station in Willow Grove to schools on the island where there were no libraries and no books.
